Rockstar Clown is a self-initiated illustration created in response to an unexpected period of academic difficulty during the transition to online learning. Originally drawn by hand and later reimagined digitally in Adobe Illustrator, the character uses the image of a high-functioning sad clown to explore the contrast between outward achievement and internal struggle.
PROBLEM
After previously earning Dean’s List recognition and scholarships, the sudden transition to online learning resulted in an unfamiliar decline in academic performance and ultimately led to an ADHD diagnosis. The challenge became translating that experience into something visual: expressing the disconnect between appearing capable and accomplished externally while struggling internally, without allowing the work to feel defined solely by failure.
SOLUTION
The original hand-drawn character was transformed into a polished digital illustration, using exaggerated form, color, jewelry and rock-inspired details to turn a difficult experience into an expressive visual identity. The completed work was later featured as an NFT in the Miami Herald, where attorney Kimra Major-Morris used Rockstar Clown to support a broader discussion surrounding mental health, creativity and digital ownership.
