B4 is a conceptual fashion study examining the recurring relationship between contemporary trends and African visual traditions. Through hairstyle, jewelry, adornment and silhouette, the collection traces forms that repeatedly reappear in modern fashion while exploring their deeper cultural and historical origins.
PROBLEM
Many hairstyles, jewelry silhouettes and forms of adornment treated as contemporary trends have visual precedents across African cultures. As these forms cycle through fashion, their origins can become detached from the trend itself. The challenge was to reveal these recurring visual patterns without recreating historical references verbatim.
SOLUTION
B4 translates these connections through a series of pure-black figures, reducing the body to a visual ground for silhouette, hair and adornment. By removing individualizing features and emphasizing form, recurring hairstyles, jewelry shapes and proportions become the focus, allowing historical references and contemporary fashion imagery to exist within the same visual language.
